I Need to be Clean

cleanwaterThere is a song that has been on my mind recently.  It convicts me of my sin nearly every time I think about it or sing it.

This version of the song is performed by Kutless although I believe it was originally performed by Chris Tomlin on an album called Worship Together Live 2001: Pour Over Me.

It is amazing how songs written with God’s truth at their forefront can continue to bless and be relevant through the years.  “Give us Clean Hands” is certainly such a song.

The more I study God’s word and the more I want to know Him the more I realize that I must be clean if I am to be usable and set apart for His service.  What originally seemed to be a frightening idea (give up my will in exchange for His will) is actually turning out to be a fantastic adventure that fills me with wonder and awe.

I am more excited to see what God is going to do in me, through me and around me than I have ever been at any time in my life.  If I am to continue in this adventure, this walk, this life lived for God then I must do as it says in Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God“.

I need to be renewed daily and sometimes hourly.  In my human weakness it is all too easy for me to take my eyes off the God I love and instead focus on my circumstances or get distracted by something I think I want or need.  And it is in those times that I make mistakes and I sin against God.

There is no sugarcoating sin.  It is an affront to God and it must be dealt with if we are to be the people that God wants us to be.

Thank the Father for the Son because it is only by His sacrifice and His love for us that we can claim 1 John 1:9 which promises “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness“.

I need to be clean.  My prayer today is for hands that are clean and a heart that is pure.  Give me clean hands, Lord.  Give me clean hands.
