Unassailable is a big word, but I like it.  It means to be impregnable and not able to be doubted, attacked or questioned.  To be unassailable is to be sure, firm and sound.  Whether we realize it or not we spend much of our lives and enormous amounts of energy trying to make ourselves and our families unassailable.  We desperately want security, and rightly so.  Unfortunately, experience has taught me that the human experience is the opposite of unassailable and that very little in this life is secure.

Our wealth can be stolen, taxed and diminished by any number of outside forces.  Our homes, cars and possessions deteriorate with age and with use.  Our loved ones can choose to leave us or be separated from us by circumstance or disease.  And worst of all, our health and with it our very lives fade away and are forgotten.

And yet, to be a child of God is to be unassailably blessed.

God has given us that which is normally impossible on this physical plain.  He has given us something secure, timeless and constant.  He has given us the gift of His presence and His peace as long as we are walking with Him.

Through salvation and the regeneration of our spirit, the Son of God is manifested in us.  We are given the ability to overcome our old sin nature and the habits that once bound us and be made like Jesus.  God’s Word tells us that every spiritual blessing is ours to claim (Ephesians 1:3) and that we are joint heirs with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17) and His rightful inheritance as the Son of Almighty God.

I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time understanding that.  I know who I am.  I know what I deserve.  But God still offers me the same grace, the same love and the same forgiveness that he offers you.  He offers us blessings that can’t be diminished by time or use!

Every time that I become tempted to find security in something material or wordly, God pulls the curtain back and shows me how flimsy it all really is.  He does this not because He is cruel or unkind, but because He knows that there is only once place in all the universe where my security can be found.  All else is false and fading and quite frankly, beneath us.  God wants us to invest our time, energy and hope into things that will last and into those things that store up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21).  Those things are eternal, unshakable and yes, unassailable.
